At present, everyone above 60 years of age and meeting the economic criteria set by the government is eligible to receive a monthly pension of Rs 1,000 in the state. The draft policy, which was reviewed by Chief Secretary R. Anbu has a dedicated ‘Vigilance and Crime Department’ under the Director of Police for senior citizens. According to a study, 24 percent of senior citizens in Tamil Nadu live in extreme poverty (Rs.38 per person per day), and the percentage of senior citizens below the poverty line is higher in urban areas (41 percent). in rural areas (32 percent). The study revealed that women are more likely to fall below the poverty line than men, and only 30 percent apply for old age pension in Tamil Nadu and only 16 percent receive the pension. The draft policy also recommends universal seniority cards for senior citizens to get benefits related to social rights, insurance, medical expenses, public transport, and access to recreational places. Destitute/ Deserted Wives Pension Scheme

Destitute/ Abandoned Wives Pension Scheme is provided to women who have left their spouse without any care or protection for 5 years and above.

Admissibility

  • Spouses who are legally divorced or abandoned by their spouses for 5 years.
  • Destitute wives who have no other source of income and have assets less than or equal to Rs. 50,000/- are eligible.

  • Must be 30 years and above.

Destitute Differently able Pension Scheme

40% of disabled persons with disabilities are provided with the indigent disabled pension scheme.

Sri Lankan Refugees Destitute/ Deserted Wives Pension

A Sri Lankan refugee wife (female) who has been separated from her husband for more than 5 years is eligible.

  • Must be legally divorced by their husband or separated from their spouse for 5 years.

What is CAN?

CAN is the Citizen Access Number required to avail of all e-Sevai services provided by various departments through TNeGA. An applicant can apply for Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOPS) if he/she has got Individual Citizen Access Number (CAN). If the applicant does not have a unique CAN number, he/she needs to register for CAN to access the application form for the Old Age Pension Scheme in Tamil Nadu.

Method to apply for OAP Pension/ OAP Pension Application Form

  1. You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number to register on the eSevai portal.
  2. Once registered, log in to the website.
  3. Select “Revenue Department”
  4. Now, Select “Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOPS) in Tamil Nadu” from the list.
  5. Click “Continue”
  6. To apply for CAN registration, click on the “Register CAN” button.
  7. Fill in all the mandatory details in the prescribed format.
  8. Click Register to submit the form.
  9. Generate and verify the OTP before submitting the form.
  10. On successful CAN registration, a CAN number is generated.
  11. Enter “Income Details of Family Members” and click “Add”.
  12. Enter “Property Details of Family Members” and click “Add”.
  13. Click “Submit” to continue submitting documents.
  14. Pay the required amount. An acknowledgment receipt will be displayed.
  15. Click Print Receipt to download/print the receipt.
  16. After submission (by clicking the submit button), the application is saved as a draft.’
  17. Submitted applications can be viewed under the Submitted Application section.
