Swacch Bharat Abhiyan (SMA) was launched with a vision to ensure hygiene, waste management and sanitation across the nation. This mission will be implemented across all the cities of India. The state of Maharashtra has a total number of 384 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of which 27 are municipal corporations, 357 municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats. As per the guidelines of Swacch Bharat Mission (urban), all the urban local bodies have to provide a facility of toilet to all the households having no latrine within premises and an effective solid waste management system. For implementation of the same, Government of Maharashtra have launched “Swacch Maharashtra Abhiyan” at the state level.
